Converting from DBX to PST should be easy, right? After all, both files types are from Microsoft. But, unless you’re still on Windows XP, you’re out of luck! Office Outlook won’t import your Outlook Express files.
So what are your options?
We suggest two solutions: one free and one commercial. The free method is great if money is tight. The other is better if you value your time and accurate results. Keep reading to know which is best for you.
How to Convert DBX Files to PST – the Free Way
This method requires two programs: Windows Live Mail and Office Outlook. Note that this solution only works if your DBX files include a matching Folders.dbx file.
But beware! There is a risk of email data loss with this method. We’ll talk more about that in a minute. For now, let’s look at how it’s done.
Why the Free Method Isn’t Your Best Bet
The most visible problem has to do with your photos, graphics and other images inserted in messages. After migration, they show up as broken pictures in Outlook—you can no longer see them in the context of the message body.
Another problem is the loss of all original email SMTP headers. If you value the integrity of your messages, especially if you work in the field of computer forensics, this is completely unacceptable.
Last but not least, this free method is very time consuming if you have many accounts to migrate. And we all know that time is money. So paying for a competitively priced tool may actually save you money.
Let me tell you about a simple solution that saves both time and money. Read on…
How to Convert from DBX to PST – the Simple Way
You need a quick, easy, affordable way to transfer emails from Outlook Express to Office Outlook. There are free options, as explained above, but as you can see, they take a lot of time for unpredictable results.
If you want an email conversion tool you can trust, that will get your job done fast without compromising quality, and one that’s competitively priced, it’s simple. Get Aid4Mail.
Aid4Mail offers a modern wizard interface and includes a well-documented user manual. But since context-sensitive help is provided on each wizard screen, there’s a good chance you’ll never need to open the manual.
With Aid4Mail you simply select Outlook Express as your source mail and Office Outlook PST file as your target format, and press Start.
- There is no loss of data with Aid4Mail.
- It automatically restores your Outlook Express folder tree in Outlook without any manual intervention.
- It correctly transfers the status information of your emails (like unread, replied, forwarded, and flagged) to Outlook.
- And, if necessary, you can also export your messages directly to Office 365—or to Microsoft Exchange using our Aid4Mail Professional edition.
Although Office Outlook must be installed, there’s no need for Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail. And, unlike the free method, Aid4Mail will successfully convert your DBX files even if the Folders.dbx file is missing.
Note that we also offer a special command-line edition if you need to migrate a large number of user accounts (see our large-scale migration page).
