Export mail from Thunderbird to EML

Step-by-step tutorial

  1. Run Aid4Mail MBOX Converter and then click on the Choose Source Files tab if it isn’t already selected.
  2. In the Select file format list, choose "Thunderbird".
  3. Add files and/or folders to the Choose files and folders to convert list. You can skip this step if your Thunderbird files are stored in the default location on your computer and you want to convert all your mail folders.
  4. You will probably want the Include subfolders and Skip trash & junk folders options ticked.
  5. Either click on the Next button or directly on the Set Target Options tab.
  6. Under Convert files to, select “EML files (*.eml)” from the list.
  7. You only need to change the Target folder or file name field if the suggested location is not suitable. Aid4Mail MBOX Converter will automatically create the folder if it doesn’t exist yet.
  8. We recommend that you select the Use unique MD5 file names option, which gets rid of duplicates and avoids issues with long or unusual file names. The Set file date to match email date can be left unchecked as the file date stamp will be ignored by mail programs.
  9. You will need to decide if you want to export all your mail to a single folder (the easiest solution when you reach the import step), or whether you want to restore your source folder structure. Set the Restore source mail folder structure option accordingly.
  10. Either click on the Next button or directly on the Start Conversion tab. You’re now ready to convert your mailbox files to EML.
  11. Click on the Start button. Aid4Mail MBOX Converter will show which files it is processing in the progress window.
  12. On completing the email conversion, Aid4Mail MBOX Converter will display a status report at the end of the progress window. You can now click on the Close button to quit the Aid4Mail MBOX Converter program.
