Aid4Mail 6.1 Launched: Adds Portable Email Viewer for Reviewing Curated Email Sets

Forensics, eDiscovery Eric Fookes

We’re excited to announce the release of Aid4Mail 6.1, bringing powerful new tools to digital forensics and eDiscovery workflows. At the heart of this update is the Aid4Mail Email Viewer—a secure, portable, and user-friendly solution for reviewing curated sets of emails.

Built for professionals handling sensitive data, the Email Viewer empowers you to conduct thorough investigations without relying on cloud platforms or complicated review software.

Review Anywhere—No Installation Required

The Aid4Mail Email Viewer runs in any modern browser. It requires no setup, server, or internet connection. Just double-click index.html to start reviewing emails immediately.

This makes it ideal for:

  • Field investigations on a thumb drive
  • Legal teams reviewing from a network share
  • Secure environments with no external connectivity
  • Sharing review sets with outside counsel or regulators

Purpose-Built for Non-Technical Reviewers

Whether you’re a forensic analyst, litigation support staff, or a regulatory reviewer, the Email Viewer’s clean interface keeps things simple. It’s fully accessible, keyboard-navigable, and WCAG 2.1 AA compliant. Built-in themes (light/dark/high contrast) ensure comfort during long review sessions.

Email previews are sandboxed by default to prevent malicious code execution. No external scripts or images are loaded unless you explicitly disable sandboxing—per session, with clear visual warnings.

Fast and Scalable, Even with 100,000+ Emails

Performance matters when you’re facing large datasets. The Email Viewer handles collections exceeding 100,000 emails with ease, using optimized search indexing and virtual scrolling.

This means minimal lag when sorting, filtering, or jumping between messages—making it viable for corporate investigations, regulatory disclosures, and large-scale eDiscovery productions.

Advanced Search with Field-Level Precision

Find exactly what you need using fielded search syntax:

date:2025-06 subject:"very urgent" -status:spam

This query locates emails from June 2025 with “very urgent” in the subject, excluding those marked as spam. Search fields include sender, recipient, subject, folder, status, classification, and more.

AI labels applied during the Aid4Mail export process—like Responsive or Needs Review—are fully searchable in the viewer. This gives reviewers powerful control over what they see.

Persistent Tagging and Offline Collaboration

Tag emails for follow-up, privilege, responsiveness, or any custom workflow. Tags are stored locally and persist across sessions. You can:

  • Export tagged email lists for auditing or import
  • Share tag files across team members
  • Pre-load standard tags using a simple configuration file

This supports structured, consistent reviews—even when team members work separately or offline.

Designed for Curated Collections

The Email Viewer is ideal for reviewing focused sets of emails—those filtered down using Aid4Mail’s robust processing pipeline:

  • Pre-acquisition filters for Gmail, Microsoft 365, and IMAP
  • Boolean search-lists and wildcards
  • AI-driven classification using your own prompts

Once culled, the collection is exported to HTML with the viewer included. You can optionally attach the full SMTP header to each message for forensic verification.

Share Freely and Securely

You’re free to distribute the Aid4Mail Email Viewer with your HTML export. No licensing hurdles, no user restrictions. This is a significant benefit when producing deliverables for clients, regulators, or opposing counsel.

Whether hosted on a secure server, shared via USB, or used in the field, the viewer ensures your recipients can review email evidence without delay.
